Mediastar – Reach & Frequency Error

Last week, it was noticed that Mediastars Reach & Frequency (R&F) model produced incorrect calculations. The error was noticed only for the R&F calculation of the IRS combined and IRS local, Red FM, Cork 96 and C103 when run separately. This error is being fixed now and a new Mediastar database has been issued.

IRS – Red FM Listenership Figures Double

In a statement issued last week IPSOS MRBI, confirmed that there has been a continuing error in listenership explorations for RED FM and that the error has been present in interpreted data since November 2007.

The corrected data means that Red Fm’s percentage listenership of the target audience is 48% and not 25% as has been reported.

This error has had a detrimental effect on advertising revenue for Red FM and the station’s lawyers have been instructed to issue proceedings forthwith.

AVATAR breaks Box Office Records!

It was announced on the W/C 1st March that the 20th Century Fox film AVATAR now has the highest box office takings ever in Ireland. Incidentally it has taken well over $2.5bn worldwide so far making it the highest grossing film ever worldwide also.

Ireland’s all time top ten now looks like this:

TGI Teasers – Guide to Grocery Shopping

93% of adults in Northern Ireland shop at least once a week for food, drink or household products and 30% shop every day.
The most popular day for regular grocery shopping is Friday, with 22% of main shoppers active then, followed by Saturday and Thursday. The least popular days are Sunday and Tuesday.
A third of main shoppers travel less than a mile to do their regular shop but 10% travel at least ten miles. 80% travel by car for their regular shopping.
The most popular types of shop are high street or town centre supermarkets, used regularly by 50% of main shoppers, and out-of-town supermarkets (39%). A quarter of main shoppers regularly use a butcher and a fifth regularly use an independent grocer.
In Northern Ireland the average main shopper spends £77 / €89 a week on groceries and household goods. Average spend on the main weekly shop is £61 / €70, similar to the British average spend of £60. The most popular grocers are Tesco and Asda, used by 62% and 34% of main shoppers, followed by Spar (29%), Lidl (25%), Iceland (25%) and M&S (19%). In Britain the most popular are Tesco (59%), Asda (38%), Sainsbury’s (36%), Morrisons (31%) and the Co-operative (23%).
Almost half of main shoppers say the most important factor when choosing a grocer is value for money, followed by low price (30%), locality (29%), range of products (25%) and quality of products (24%).
Latest data shows that 29% of main shoppers think it’s worth paying more for organic food, down from 37% in 2007 – perhaps a consequence of the economic downturn.
However, the number of main shoppers regularly buying ‘healthy option’ products has stayed the same at 31% – equivalent to 230,000 people.
The most often avoided food constituents are high fat, avoided by 28% of adults, high sugar (25%), high salt (24%) and high cholesterol (21%). 200,000 adults now avoid artificial colours or flavours.

IKEA – Kitchens Campaign

IKEA launched the first Irish campaign for their Kitchen range with 3 consecutive 60 second spots in the Late Late Show. The idea was to launch with a big impact and then communicate the detail over the subsequent weeks.

The 3 ads cumulatively created impact by telling the real story of Monica and her surprise IKEA kitchen makeover in a comical and quirky way.

The campaign was supported with newspaper supplements as well revealing the before (awful!) and after (beautiful, functional & convenient) of Monica’s kitchen. Continue reading ‘IKEA – Kitchens Campaign’

IDL – Malibu

Malibu launched their new campaign on Feb 15th with a heavy burst supported by TV, online and radio. The TV campaign was launched with a roadblock set up around the 2130 break. The creative is based around the comical antics of MC Wonder Full and DJ Bernhard – who run a pirate radio station, Radio Maliboom Boom, on a beach in Barbados – whose infectious beats spread the good vibes of a Malibu party, far and wide. Over 420,000 ADS1534MC viewers tuned in to the ad on our kick off day, which equated to 23% 1+ coverage for this audience in our first day alone, the campaign is running until mid March so stay tuned and keep an eye out for ‘Snowflake’ and her antics! The campaign was also supported by online, local radio stations and there is also a Malibu Radio Boom Boom facebook page.
